Meet the Inc.'s Newest Member: Melissa Marsh
Melissa Marsh has recently established a private practice in workplace consulting, change management and executive education for managers and designers. Her organization, PLASTIC ARCHITECTURE, is dedicated to increasing the flexibility of architecture and the performance of workplace through social research and occupant engagement.
Melissa has been a consultant in this area throughout her career, supporting large organizations in designing spaces that better engage and support employees. She began working at the Inc. as research for an article on the importance and impact of co-working facilities. The community and facility can be at least partially credited for her choice to launch an independent practice.

Sarah's Note: Conservation
Like many of you, we spent much of the last week without power or easy access to gas. In this context of limited resources, I've found my decisions about how to use these resources have new weight. If I didn't get something done during the daylight hours, it didn't get done. If I used my last bit of cell phone battery to send an email, I couldn't make that phone call. If I chose to go grocery shopping, I couldn't also take my son to his playdate. And so on.
This conservation mindset has illuminated for me our cultural compulsion to do everything. Every email needs to be sent, every call completed, every item checked off, every stop made. No wonder my focus gets diluted, my resources drained.
We talk a lot about conservation in terms of the world's natural resources, but little about it in terms of our own. What if we conserved our time, our focus, our energy with the same diligence? Why wait for an outside circumstance to tell us we need to hold back? We can function better and more effectively by targeting our decisions all along. And if we save some of those precious personal resources, we might just have some to spare when the next crisis comes around.

Open Mic This Friday!
After missing October's open mic, we are psyched that the power came back on in time to hold this month's on schedule. And while we're on the subject, a few things you should know about the open mic:
- It's so much fun. Whether you're playing or listening, there's a great vibe in the room, and it's a thrill to sit back, have a beer (or an Italian soda for the younger set), and hear all this new and original music.
- There's a great crew. Every month it's a different group, and loaded with talent from around Westchester, and sometimes from the city, Rockland County, Dutchess County and beyond.
- You should play! Don't go on about how it's been a while, and you have to practice. . . just get up there. We've got your back.
Open mic is the second Friday of every month, so if you can't make it this week, you can come on December 14th, or January 11th, or February 8th. . . you get the idea.
Open Mic
Friday, November 9th
Doors and sign-up open at 7:30 pm
